What is RSS?

For some of you that are visiting my blog, you may wonder what that Orange square-like button is on the top of my page. If you don’t know, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and basically it is a way to read websites in one place through the wonders of programming and other stuff that I don’t quite understand.

Each post on my blog belongs to an assigned “feed,” kind of like a web page. In turn, a web address devoted to my website feed can be accessed by RSS readers where if you have one you can subscribe to it and read my website along with other websites you read in one place.

It’s kind of like subscribing to a magazine but being able to subscribe to many magazines and read them in one place.

Google has a great RSS reader that is really easy to use and I highly recommend it. It’s called Google Reader. Other popular RSS readers are Bloglines, Newsgator and Netvibes. These can all be accessed online and to me are the best way to keep up with all your favorite blogs in one place.
