Celebrity Fit: Hilary Duff

Shape Hilary DuffThe buzz in celebrity fitness is without a doubt Hilary Duff! In this August’s issue of Shape magazine, I almost didn’t recognize her! She is looking really good these days, and I hope she keeps at it because she’s definitely looking healthy and fit! She is another person that has inspired me to get back into the fitness because I like celebs who aren’t too skinny, but fit and curvaceous. So what does Hilary do to keep in shape?

According to the feature article,

“I definitely felt the pressure to lose weight,” she recalls. “So my best friend and I decided to get into shape. We started eating only protein and veggies. No bread, no desserts. I wasn’t starving myself, but I wasn’t getting a balanced diet and I did get too thin. At the time I didn’t realize what I was doing to my body.”

“I learned you had to balance things. If I’m going to eat bread, I’ll skip dessert, or if I know I want dessert, I won’t have pasta. Once I started eating healthier, I put on weight and looked much better,” she says.

Hilary takes pilates (check out her favorite moves here), which she absolutely loves, swimming (she says that it firms you up and you use muscles you never knew you had!), and on the road she exercises her arms with two water bottles doing bicep curls, arm lifts and triceps extensions.

So from this article, I learned two things: you don’t need to deprive yourself from the food you love, but you gotta know how to balance. Also, you need to enjoy the exercises you do. I don’t know much about pilates (yet!) but swimming is definitely fun, and arm exercises? Totally doesn’t hurt to lift a couple water bottles!
