Day 19: Couch to 5k Week 2 Day 1

by Sue on August 8, 2007

I’m on week 2 of the Couch to 5k training program and it’s definitely a challenge. I decided to try out the gym that’s in my housing development and did the 5 minute warm up walk from my house to the gym. The music is great on the podcast and Robert (the creator of the podcast) tells you when to start running or walking. It felt really good to finish the workout and I did my cool down walk back home.

I’m a member of a gym and I was wondering if the gym in my development was good enough to just work out there and not have to pay the monthly membership at the gym I go to now, but I honestly didn’t like how the gym in my development didn’t really have as much as my current gym. It’s definitely worth going to the gym since everything is there. Are you a member of a gym or do you just work out at home? Is it better for you where you work out now?

I belong to a gym and I thought about quitting it before and just working out at home. I’m glad I didn’t though because I find that I am more motivated once I get there. I still do some exercises at home (push-ups, sit-ups, etc.) but I like having the option to use all of the weight and cardio machines at the gym too.

Have you thought about taking up traditional Taijiquan as well? it’s really good for re-balancing internal circulation and improving metabolism. You seem so motivated, I thought you may also want to explore Taijiquan as an option. BTW, I don’t mean those qigong-like exercises, but Taijiquan as a traditional martial art form with underlying martial applications, kicks and punches, body synchronicity, the entire holistic works …
