Body Mass Index Determines Your Healthiness Level

by Sue on August 21, 2007

BMIBody mass index, otherwise known as BMI, is a way to determine if you’re body is healthy or not. BMI is a simple measurement of a person’s healthiness using height and weight. It is good to know your BMI to see if you’re either underweight, overweight or just fine. Of course, just because you have a normal BMI doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep up a healthy lifestyle.

My BMI is measured at Normal which is 18.5 – 24.9. I know that even though my BMI is normal I still want to eat healthy, exercise and tone my body to the way I want it.

Here are the categories of how your BMI is determined as:

  • Underweight = <18.5
  • Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

Measure your BMI here and let me know if you’re happy with it or not and why? If you’re not happy, what would you want to do to improve it?

I’m showing as overweight, but I am 5’7, 165 pounds and very fit.

This is incredibly inaccurate for males especially because it doesn’t take your muscle mass into account.

Nonetheless, it is a tool for measurement and if you know you aren’t quite fit it can provide a baseline for you.
