Today I started Week 4 of the Couch to 5k training program. Let me tell you, it was tougher than I expected!
This is the routine I did:
Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:
- Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
- Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds)
- Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
- Walk 1/4 mile (or 2-1/2 minutes)
- Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
- Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds)
- Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
You know, I didn’t even realize that I jogged half a mile…twice! It wasn’t easy but I did it, and I felt so accomplished. These podcasts definitely help, although personally, I didn’t enjoy the music as much as the prior weeks, but they’re still helpful so I don’t have to keep my eye on the time.
To be honest, I think about when I actually run that 5k that I’m planning to do in September and I get kind of scared. I’m fine when I’m on the treadmill, and I only ran outside once (which was tough because it was really hot out). Since the 5k is at a park, I know eventually I’m going to start running outside during the training process. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I’m excited but at the same time nervous. I guess as long as I have a positive attitude I’ll be fine.
