Day 29: Couch to 5k Week 4 Day 2 & Link Roundup

by Sue on August 24, 2007

Today was running day and it was quite the challenge. As I was running I was thinking how I would be able to run nonstop for 30 minutes, eventually… there were even times when I felt I should just stop but I didn’t. Pain is weakness leaving the body! My breathing when running is getting better. I think most of the time when people have difficulty running its because of their breathing techniques as they run. But as long as you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth at a constant rate as you run it isn’t so difficult.

VeggiesEating wise, my choice in foods have been somewhat poor, and I honestly need to find a way to eat healthy but not feel so constricted. I know I need to eat more fruits and vegetables and avoid fatty, high carb, sugary foods. I need to do some research on a new way of eating (notice I didn’t say diet) when I get back from my vacation from California, which is next week.

Here are the end of the week roundup links to not get off my Friday tradition:

Trying Fitness has a new layout and a really interesting post about choosing a traditional gym versus a specialty gym. There are definitely pros and cons to this and I would know because I used to go to a Muay Thai gym many years ago and sometimes I just wanted a break from kicking and hitting bags! I like my traditional gym a lot better, and I get a lot for the price I pay.

Real Women’s Fitness has a great post about the 5 things you should do for weight loss online. We all should familiarize ourselves with anything fitness and health related especially if you want to lose weight. The internet is great for that!

I Ate A Pie is a site I discovered recently which reviews healthy food. I love the concept because I have yet to find out snacks and food that are healthy and natural. I’ve actually tried the Lipton Tea To Go Green Tea in Honey & Lemon Flavor, and I Ate A Pie reviews Lipton Tea to Go in Apple Cranberry Flavor. A good alternative to drinking water from time to time…and it’s tea which I LOVE.

Have a happy and healthy weekend everyone! :) Let’s get out and enjoy the fresh air outdoors!

Sue, when you are running are you monitoring your heart rate?

This is very important so that you can get in the right zone for what you are trying to accomplish.

For fat loss, you should be at about 60-70% of your max heart rate. You might be running too hard. I was before I got a Polar heart rate monitor.

Anyway, keep it up and your body will be able to work up to 30 minutes nonstop.

Breathing is very important like you mentioned.

I check my heart rate on the treadmill after every running interval. I never really thought about a heart rate monitor. Thanks for the tip there! :)

Monitoring heart rate can be done with gadgets available everywhere on the net. Simply stick an electrode kind and start to run.

I agree with you Armand Rousso but gadgets available everywhere on the net do not have enough reliability compare standard machine.
