After a well deserved vacation, I’m back into the grind of work and exercising. I realized that I only have 11 days (September 16) until the 5k and I don’t have enough time to do all 9 weeks of the Couch to 5k training. But nonetheless I decided to give it a try anyway. There are some other 5k’s in the future that I am looking into running, so by then I figure that I’ll be good to go.
Yesterday was Week 5, Day 1 of my training which consists of the following:
Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:
- Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
- Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
- Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
- Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
- Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
Day 2 & Day 3′s running plan are going to be different, as the running intervals are longer and the walks are less. Running for 5 minutes straight was quite challenging and I know it’s definitely going to be challenging from here. Even though I anticipate not finishing the program in time for the race, I just want to be able to challenge myself and see how well I can do anyway. I’m definitely kicking it in gear though, everyday I will be exercising, whether it is strength training or running. I’m alternating the running and strength training from now until the race so my body will be ready to run a longer distance.
