I’m Getting The Hang Of Running!

by Sue on September 6, 2007

Run run run!Today I was able to do 2 intervals of 8 minute runs! Although I did it at a slower pace, I didn’t really feel exhausted and I was totally surprised that I could actually do it.

Day 2 of Week 5′s Couch to 5k training consists of:

  • Brisk five-minute warmup walk
  • Jog 3/4 mile (or 8 minutes)
  • Walk 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
  • Jog 3/4 mile (or 8 minutes)

After the last 8 minute run, you finish with a 5 minute cool down walk.

I felt really good after the run, and during the workout I was thinking about a lot, from the actual race (which is in 10 days), and how long it will take me to finish. My main concern is how long it will take me to finish. I really want to finish the race in 40 minutes (less is even better!) meaning I’d have to be able to run 1 mile in about 13 minutes. I know for experienced runners that may sound like a long time, but I’m trying to be realistic.

I really have to get used to running outside, so my next training day will be done outside. Hopefully the hot FL weather won’t hurt me! Also, this weekend I’m going to register for the race so I can’t back out! Yay!

Registering for a race ahead of time is a great incentive for getting to the starting line.

    Good luck!
