4 Different Yogurts To Try

by Sue on September 18, 2007

Lately, I’ve become really into yogurt as a snack. I was never really a fan of yogurt when I was growing up but as I got older, I started to like it, especially with fruit mixed into it.

Activia by DannonMy favorite kind right now is the Dannon Activia yogurt, and it’s a low fat yogurt with Bifidus Regularis. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking…what is Bifidus Regularis? According to their official website, Bifidus Regularis is a live “friendly” bacteria that regulates your digestive system by helping reduce long intestinal transit time. Basically, this good bacteria in the yogurt helps your digestive system become more regulated. You can’t go wrong with that I think… and the yogurt really tastes good! I love the blueberry, strawberry and strawberry banana.

To read about the 3 other yogurts I’ve tried…

I also tried 2 yogurts that I found in the yogurt aisle at Whole Foods that weren’t exactly your traditional yogurt.

Ricera Rice YogurtRicera Rice Yogurt is non dairy, organic and made of whole grain rice. It is technically considered yogurt because of the live active cultures that yogurt is. Ricera is definitely a good alternative to the traditional yogurt and in my opinion it’s not bad tasting either. I tried the Organic Vanilla, and although there aren’t any fruits in it, I still enjoyed the taste. At $1.49 a pop it’s good to have every now and then.

Silk Live! Soy YogurtSilk Live! Soy yogurt is a soy yogurt made by the Silk people, which appealed to me because I love their Soy milk. :) It includes live cultures as well, making it considered yogurt. I only tried their Strawberry Banana flavor, and in my opinion, it was kind of weird tasting and I didn’t really enjoy it much. The taste reminded me of plastic. I guess I’ll just stick to their soy milk.

Pinkberry YogurtAnother yogurt that I absolutely love because I am a fruit yogurt person, is Pinkberry. They have locations in New York and California, and I’ve tried it in both places. It’s a pretty new company, so hopefully in the future they’ll branch out to other states. When I went to the Pinkberry in California the line was out the door! Pinkberry is frozen yogurt, but not ice cream type frozen yogurt. It’s non fat and light. There are two types of yogurt to choose from: Regular and Green Tea, and then you choose you choice of fruits and other toppings. The fruit toppings are fresh so of course when I went I got all fruit toppings. The taste of the yogurt is so refreshing and doesn’t taste artificial at all, especially with the fruit. I’ve heard and read about controversy of Pinkberry yogurt not really being yogurt on other websites but I think it’s just those who are yogurt haters.

Yogurt is definitely one of those healthy snacks that benefit your health, such as preventing osteoporosis, as well as helping your stomach, meaning your digestive system. Adding fruits to it, such as strawberries, blueberries and even mango and kiwi (yum!) makes it even more enjoyable to eat. :)

Pinkberry rules! I absolutely love it. Thankfully they are opening up one a lot closer to where I live and I can’t wait. :-)

Coincidentally I just reviewed Activia Light today. I haven’t heard of Ricera before, so I’m definitely going to try that.

This looks delicious. Unfortunately I can’t find so many varieties in my area. I think the best ones are the natural yogurts without the sugars!

I have yet to get into yogurt. The last few times that I tried it, it really didn’t do much for me, unfortunately.

I’ve tried Activia before but none of the other brands mentioned. However, my personal favourite yoghurts have to be the ‘Ski Yoghurt Black and Red Cherry Selection Pack’. Very tasty.
