Chicago Marathon Gets Shut Down

by Sue on October 8, 2007

I was really excited about the Chicago marathon in particular because my cousin (along with his brother) was going to participate, and his first marathon too, so I was hoping the best for him. I had no idea that the heat affected so many people that they had to shut down the race until I saw the report on the Today show this morning. Could you imagine training for this race only to find out that you had to stop? Then again, it was for everyone safety. It saddened me that even someone passed away because of this race. It’s definitely scary! I indirectly found out my cousin was okay, but I still don’t know if he finished or not. Hopefully this won’t discourage him from running any future marathons!

I definitely feel bad for all those people that were forced to stop running. They trained so hard….for so long…and had to give up on their goal! The decision was made to save lives though—hopefully those runners will get another chance to run.
