As I am getting into running more, and the weather being cooler, I really want to run outside. I found out a way to change up my routes by using Google Maps. Pick a starting point just like you’re mapping out a place you need directions to an end point. In the map below, my starting point is from one point in my town to another point. It’s about 3.7 miles from start to finish. What’s cool about Google Maps is that you can drag the points and it tells you the distance. This is a great way to make different routes in the neighborhood. Of course, make sure you’re running safely - if you’re listening to MP3s make sure you’re aware of your surroundings and make sure you’re seen if you’re running in the dark.

I like using http://www.mapmywalk.com/ to map run/walk routes. Your route doesn’t even have to follow along a road and it will still map it. You should check it out
Thanks for the info! I have been trying to make time to go for walks(def. only walks at first) and those are great ideas! I will def be checking out mapmywalk.com too! Thanks!
There are a lot of options for doing that.
You might like to check out some of the dedicated sites, because you can search for other maps that people have created, and you can put waypoints (such as bathrooms or water) on the maps as well. They’ll also list mile or kilometers as you go along.
Some of the more popular ones:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com (the original one)
http://www.runningahead.com (my favorite, and where I log my workouts)
http://www.mapmyrun.com (same people as elaine linked to above)
http://www.usatf.org/routes/ (USATF’s official maps site)
There are 3 or 4 more that I’ve seen but I can’t remember their URLs off the top of my head.
