Writing A Letter To My Body

After reading Stephanie’s post, I felt inspired to write a Letter to My Body. A bunch of bloggers are writing letters to their body and putting themselves out there, which is pretty awesome. It comes to show that we all have issues or concerns about our bodies, which makes us connected in some way. I have to be honest, writing this letter made me feel a little strange, but here’s me putting myself out there.

So here’s my own, letter to my body…

Dear Body,

Although it feels weird writing to you, I just wanted to let you know that you’ve been pretty good to me lately and I want to thank you. There are times when I felt pretty bad about what you looked like, but I’ve learned that it’s up to me to keep you healthy. So I really am learning how to control the urges to eat the things that make me and you feel yucky.

You’ve helped me get to that finish line those two 5K’s and I thank you for not giving up. We have a long way to go to do 13.1 miles but I know with care and training, you won’t let me down.

Because of my control, you’re definitely showing a difference and I feel good. It’s amazing how good you’ve been to me considering there were times I made bad food choices in the past. I promise I’ll take good care of you, and since you’ve been pretty good to me, we as a team can do anything.

Thanks!

Always,

Sue

    Hi Sue,

You’re doing awesome. I like how you attribute your control to the effects of your body. It seems easier to look in the mirror sometimes and say, “Yikes!” But it’s all our decisions, lack of control that led to the results.

You’re gonna rock the Half Marathon.

That was a great letter. Thanks for sharing! I’m so glad BlogHer did that campaign. It’s such a brilliant idea and helping so many women look at their bodies in a brighter light, and helping them to open up conversation with their body. Our bodies really are amazing!

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing. I stumbled upon your site while doing some research about staying healthy; actually I started doing research about my upcoming surgery. That research led me to blogs about trying other remedies before surgery, which in turn led me to do some research on overall fitness. I enjoyed reading your letter and am now thinking about writing my own letter to my body. My husband and I have been trying to make healthier decisions lately, and it hasn’t been easy.
I recently ordered a water softener system for our house after reading a blog that someone wrote about how harmful some tap water can be. We have been drinking more water instead of soda but after reading someone’s blog about the things that can be in hard water, I decided that I would do something about it. I did some research and found a blog that suggested I visit a site called http://www.raynewater.com to purchase a water softener. I did it. I learned that there is a huge list of contaminants that can be in tap water. I don’t mean to make this comment sound like a story book but I felt it was important to express my appreciation. It is because of wonderful people like you that my husband and I are making healthier choices in our everyday life. We eat better, we exercise, and now I even feel better about drinking the water straight out of our tap. I’m actually thinking about starting a blog to let people know about the potentially harmful contaminants that can be in tap water. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is “thank you for sharing” and keep up the good work… I look forward to reading your other posts!
