Planning Is Key!!

Do you ever feel like when you’re on a roll, there’s something that kind of stops you from being on that roll?  I have.  I went 2 weeks with working out 5 times and 2 days off.  I did a lot of the 30 day shred dvd and it really gives me a good workout, but I feel like maybe it’s not enough.  I missed 3 days of working out and today I started again.

The way I’ve been eating has been fairly good, but I know it can be better.  I really have to find out ways to figure out how to eat healthy and clean on a budget because I will be spending a lot of money in the next few months and I need to figure out the best way to eat healthy without spending a lot of money, because I have been spending a lot of money on food than anything else!

So my next challenge is really trying to achieve this, and I think the first thing is to plan a menu one day a week, preferably before the work week starts and figure out what foods I can use more than once, as well as prepare before hand.  So this weekend, I will be planning a menu and will spend less than $40 on food to start.  That sounds like a lot for one person but it’s a starting point.  Then from there I will try to decrease the spending amount.  I guess in a way this is like being frugal and healthy on a budget but I’m sure there are people that can relate.  :)

I start next week.

Preparation is key. I think it is a great idea to pan your menu ahead of time. Go shopping with your list already made.
Sometimes, if you see a better price on one vegetable or fruit than your original plan, you can make a little change. Going once a week, and giving yourself the time to plan ahead can do wonders for your budget and healthy eating! If you have any type of food co-op around you, buying bulk can save you money. Rice, nuts and other healthy snacks can be purchased and you can divide up an amount for each day.

I agree that planning is essential to good nutrition. When we don’t plan or forget to take a meal with us to work, it becomes easy to justify going out to eat or stop by a vending machine.

Of course we can still eat healthy when going out to eat for lunch, but it can me more difficult to make the right choices. When counting calories, going out to eat can also mess up the day, even if you are eating a healthy meal.
