No Excuses…

by Sue on January 19, 2009

I admit, I did not do any fitness related activities for the past 3 days.  The past weekend was about just relaxing and spending time with my family.  Yesterday I saw the P90x infomercial and was reminded about the fact that when you work out, the body needs to be challenged constantly for your body to change.  It made me wonder if the exercising that I’ve been doing has really been effective.  I know for sure my body is physically not ready for P90x but it makes me wonder if it will ever be.

I guess the whole point of this post is that I need to work harder, and I feel kind of guilty for taking a 3 day break.  If you want results, there are really no excuses.

  • I think everything has to be in moderation otherwise you could over do it. You must take time out sme of the time or you will feel the exercise is too much of a chore. I've recently purchased an exercise bike and have managed to keep going every day apart from sunday when we really go to church and spend time out with the family. having a break just gives you the inspiration to get back to it!
  • I laughed when I read this post because, like you, I was motivated to write a post after seeing a P90X commercial... If it doesn't motivate people to buy the product, at least it motivates them to some sort of action! My theory is to do something every day that is good for you and not to put expectations on yourself. Be happy now and be healthy now. Thats all we should commit to!

    Great blog.
  • You are correct about challenging your body. When training it is good to push yourself a little harder every session because otherwise your body will become accustomed to that workout and will only remain in its current state. Dont beat yourself up about taking a few days off. Get back into your fitness routine and you will be back onto reaching your goals.

    Aloha From Hawaii!

I RSS'd your site as I face similar challenges and persistence issues. I have fallen deeply in love with Tennis so that has helped keep me going.

I am waiting for an update! Hope to hear more soon!

  • Nothing wrong with taking a short break. Just have to remember not to make it permanent...
  • I've been doing Power 90X for two years. You look - from your photos - very capable of doing the program. Tony Horton shows you how to adapt the exercises for your present fitness level. I have a physical disability and can do 90 percent of the workouts. I'm in the best shape of my life at 49. If you want to read P90X reviews I have many on my blog at http://kudosforlowcarb.blogspot.com/
Coincidentally I just wrote an article on handling excuses not to exercise in my Examiner column http://www.examiner.com/x-795-Nutrition-Examiner

OK, Sue. I'm going to disagree with you. While it's true that you have shake things up.. and that when you're working out you have to work hard. AND that a lot of folks -especially women, it seems- do not work hard enough when they are working out...
(deep breath before I get to my point)..

It's equally true that our body makes it changes NOT when we're working hard but when we are recovering. As in resting. As in doing what you did for the 3 days this weekend. And what I did for the 3 days this weekend.

So now simply tell yourself that you've recovered and now you can attack your fitness with more energy, more resolve, and work that much harder! Because you're ready to.
  • Good point Sue. Excuses are what separate the winners from the losers. Just imagine how far people such as Michael Phelps would have got if they made excuses to avoid training.
