I do a lot of martial arts and I know if I don't rest my body for a few days every now and then that I start to get weaker instead of stronger. I try to take three days off after about every 20 days of working out and learning my art. Although I have taking longer if the body requires it.

Breaks are definitely good. I didn't see any fireworks this 4th of July, although I heard plenty of them. (I'm not a huge fan of them so this was okay.) Our weather was very different...90s and humid, lots of sun.

I actually took yesterday off from running, it was the first time in 57 days. I figured that kayaking, swimming, and sitting around in the shade were suitable substitutes. :)

I've followed you on twitter, I'm @RunToWin

Hey Susan.... I agree. Small Breaks are definitely okay. It's like taking a vacation from work. It gives you time to evaluate yourself and what you want. And well timed break will give the strength and stamina to pick back up again. My issue has always been that a week sometimes can turn into one month or three months. I gave myself permission to use the holiday for family and rest as well. Tonight-- back to the gym. Good luck!
