It’s really the end stretch for me. I’m getting married at the end of February, the 27th to be exact, and last Saturday I went for my 2nd dress fitting. The week before I was pretty sick, coughing and just not feeling well at all, so obviously, there was no form of exercise that week.

When I tried on the dress, I was surprised that I could actually get into it! I mean, it actually fit well, except the dreaded area – the midsection. For as long as I can remember this is an ongoing problem area of mine. It was a bit tight, but snug enough that it wasn’t falling off.

So, for the next 6 weeks or so, starting next week of course, I’ll be working out more regularly. Hopefully, when I try on my dress on February 13, which is my last fitting and “take dress home day,” it will fit perfectly. I am definitely nervous about this, but I know as long as I work out from now until the wedding day, I should be ok!

So what will I be doing exactly? Since I don’t have a gym membership, I will be taking advantage of the fitness resources I do have. My favorite workout DVD, the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels is definitely a workout routine I will be doing. Other workouts will be the many selections I have on Exercise TV on demand, which is another great resource to have. It will help make workouts less repetitive and boring.

I plan to workout during the week and take advantage of the weekends, when time isn’t as limited.

When starting a workout routine after a hiatus its best to get into it slowly. Being too ambitious in the beginning will most likely end in me failing.

I’ve never been a calorie counter or weight watcher, more like a, “wow, this actually fits me now” type. So with that, I will be gauging my success with how I feel when I put on that dress!

Pretty proud of myself today! I was able to see my little nephew and work out! I knew that I had to stick to my plan, and I’m pretty glad I did. Today I started all over and am doing the Couch to 5k (aka C25K). With my trusty iPhone I had the Nike + app and this Couch 2 5K app I got a few days ago. The two work together and help you pretty much go through the work out. The Nike + app tracks my distance and how fast I go per mile, and the Couch 2 5K app gives me the cues to walk/jog/cooldown.

If you’re wondering what Week 1, Day 1 of the Couch to 5K workout consists of, it starts with a 5 minute warm up, then 60 seconds of jogging, followed by 90 minutes of walking for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes you do the 5 minute walking cooldown. I started the app when I walked out the door of my apt to the gym, which is almost a 5 minute walk. Got to the gym and jogged/walked on the treadmill followed by walking back home as my cooldown. It worked out perfectly!

Here was my result from the Nike + app. I know my mileage has yet to improve but after a long while of not training I had to start from the beginning, which I think is best for someone just getting back into working out. You just don’t want to dive right in and eventually hurt yourself! I could definitely handle the workout, but I didn’t want to overdo it.

I’m super excited though. I am so happy to be back to working out. It is true: working out gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy!

I just finished up a workout and I am feeling exhausted! When I need to get back into exercising I really try to get back into it to remind myself that exercise is hard work, so I did a 20 minute workout with Jillian Michaels and the 30 Day Shred. I am still able to keep up with Level 2, but I used lighter free weights. I used to use 5 lbs weights and I found myself struggling really badly, so I switched to 3 lbs weights instead and they’re still challenging!

As I was exercising I thought about how many different workout DVDs I have and I’ve only used a few of them. Thanks to being sent DVDs and ones I just wanted to try, I decided to make this week a workout DVD week, where I’ll do one workout DVD and review it. If you’re one of those people who prefer to work out in the comfort of your own home or can’t afford a gym, you’ll appreciate this one. I think workout DVDs have its pros and cons, and I’m sure some people don’t agree with using workout DVDs, but if you’re like me, you like to have instruction and learn about what areas of your body are being worked out.

If you want to learn more about the 30 Day Shred, go to my first post about it.

First off, thanks for all the advice on my last post! I really need to up the exercise a little and work my way up.

There is something that I really love, that I decided to sacrifice. I’m a fried food lover. My favorite food in the world is french fries, and yes, as bad as that sounds, I can’t help it. They’re crispy, salty and delicious. I also am a fried chicken lover too. I just love the crispiness that fried food offers, but I decided that I am going to stop eating. I’m experimenting with how fried foods affect the way I look overall, and I think its a start. It’s a start to eating healthy and watching what I eat. If anyone knows of any food recipes that are not fried and still crispy, let me know!

By the way, dance class was cancelled today, but at least tomorrow is ballroom. Ballroom is definitely different from hip hop, and we were the youngest ones there, but it was still fun, not only because it’s dancing, but I get to dance with the person I absolutely love and adore. I can’t wait!

So last week’s summary: Not too bad for getting back into the working out groove. I did 3 DVD aerobic workouts and 2 other workouts. The other 2 workouts comprised of manual labor, like helping Glen putting away his boat and bringing stuff into the house. Not sure how much that counts as exercise. so technically, I’d say I did 3 aerobic workouts which is not too bad.

I’m happy that Glen is getting into working out with me, and not only that, he’s leaning towards eating healthier now. We went to Whole Foods over the weekend and picked up a few snacks such as Dry Roasted Edamame, Brown Rice Marshmallow treats (more on those snack in another post) and Whey Protein shake powder. Today we tried one of the Protein Shake powders and may I say, it was really really good! We tried the Jay Robb Vanilla Whey Protein and added 8 frozen strawberries and about 2 1/2 cups of almond milk. After blending it looked very much like a strawberry shake, and it was really yummy! I think I am really into using frozen fruit rather than ice. Now when I go grocery shopping I’m all about using frozen fruit (without any sugar added of course) for my smoothies!

Another weekend over, and another week starts! The weekend goes by way too fast!
